Warriors Gotta Have FUN!

I realized recently that I have a blessed life, but right now it could do with a bit more fun. Have you ever felt that way?

I’ve had some great experiences over the past year, and enjoyed myself, but I can’t remember any one of them being for pure fun that I chose for myself. There’s something to make time for this year. Really. But I must give a shout out to my husband. For my birthday he surprised me by having several family members meet us at a trampoline park, and then we went to eat. That was fun!

Having said that, I must admit that the main reasons why I’ve been alright with limited fun time is that the last year or so has been incredibly challenging, and I have the Fitness Warriors.

I was humbled and honored to be included in the October-November 2018 issue of Boomer magazine article about Generous Richmonders.

I was featured in a Boomer magazine article last fall about “Generous Richmonders” for my volunteer work as one of the Fitness Warriors. It was actually a bit embarrassing, because the experience is really a gift to me.

Working out with these fine folks, and many others, is really a gift I get to open every week. Thanks everyone!

The people who run the program, my fellow Warriors, and – most importantly – the people who have taken my classes, have been truly awesome in every sense of the word. If you go to the Boomer article, scroll down to hear the Boomtown Radio interview I did with Sports Backers Director of Community Outreach Jacki Quinlan. She’s got a fancy title, but she’s best known as the “race angel.” She has this amazing ability to be in the crowd screaming your name just when you need a little extra energy during a race. Fitness Warriors is a Sports Backers program, with lead trainer/coach and visionary Ricky Martin.

We’ve had fun using things like resistance bands and even bubble wands in my Fitness Warriors class at the Petersburg Public Library on Thursdays at noon, and the great folks who participate just laugh and “keep it moving!”

Fitness Warriors classes throughout the Richmond, Virginia (RVA) region are always fun, including for instructors like me, and there’s a class somewhere for almost everyone. For example, mine (Thursdays at noon) is one of three classes at the Petersburg Public Library, and they’re all different. The library hosts other classes as well.

Someone always tries to hide from the camera, but I don’t care as long as they show out when they work out.

Are you a “warrior” of some type? If so, I hope whatever you’re doing makes your heart sing. Whether you are, or aren’t, commit to at least one big, fun thing before the end of the year. Bounce house party, anyone?
