Warrior Anniversary

Three years ago this week I started along the path to becoming one of the RVA Fitness Warriors. Time flies!

There were some really tough places on that path, but it was so worth it. It still is. For people who can find a class in their area, they get a serious workout for FREE. Warriors are serving in community centers, churches, and schools. For FREE!

Fitness Warriors class participants will tell you: FREE doesn’t mean easy.

I love the people who attend my class at the Petersburg Public Library, where we just celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of that specific class. We take Thursday at noon, and turn it into our personal power hour. Everyone doesn’t like to be in the after-picture. As long as they have a good time getting some sweat going, cool.

After a May class a sea of “Keep It Moving” blue!

On top of the fun, being inspired to keep up my own fitness regimen, and meeting great people, I keep getting exciting learning opportunities.

Three years ago when they mentioned the possibility of becoming an ACE-Certified (American Council on Exercise) Group Fitness Instructor, I thought it would be cool. However, I must admit that a corner of my brain thought that my opportunity to do that had passed. You see, I’d started studying for the certification well over a decade before I met the Fitness Warriors.

I did it! Thanks to the #RVAFitnessWarriors.

What I’ve learned, and get reminded of every Thursday in my class, is that ATTITUDE is job one! If you think you can, love yourself enough to give it a shot. Even if you don’t reach your goal, just getting into the process can help you feel like a winner.

Our Fitness Warriors Program Manager Tiffany Copeland filled in for me in May. She’s a gift to our program in a million ways! She also teaches a class for kids (and their adult, if the adult is in the mood) on Mondays at the same library.
